Octopus air source heat pump in a 1983 - 2002 property

Graeme

I started by Green journey to reduce my carbon footprint and to protect myself from the volatile UK energy costs while moving into my early retirement. Although a significant outlay for solar panels, storage batteries (£14k) and now an air source heat pump (£2k after the £7.5k government discount/grant). I am quietly confident I will recover this in reduced energy costs over the next 8 years. The “visit a heat pump” wasn’t available when I started my green journey. So, I am opening up my home to share my experiences of the install and operations of an air source heat pump. Hopefully, to answer any questions and/or worries.

Installing the system

The Octopus Cosy6 Air Source Heat Pump is an adventure I started 18 months ago. There were difficulties with our designer radiators, but this is all part of the learning curve of a new technology.
Two and sometimes three Octopus engineers to complete the install in 4-5 days. I guess this will depend on the complexity of the install. Although, the engineers said it was relatively straightforward, with minor challenges, not a problem to an experienced team.

Living with a heat pump

We have fully embraced the new technology and are slowly learning how it integrates into our daily life.
