Aira air source heat pump in a 1945 - 1964 property

Kirsty

We decided to have a heat pump installed after hearing a lot about them in the media (and how energy efficient they are) over recent years. It helped that we know someone who had one installed several years ago and had a very positive experience with installation and system. The Aira representative who came to discuss the system and costs with us reiterated this re energy efficiency. That's the main reason we decided to go ahead. At the moment, in warmer weather, our fuel bills are considerably cheaper.

Installing the system

We have new radiators in all rooms (9 in total) and most of these required new piping as our previous system was quite old. This meant floorboards being lifted in hallways/some rooms. The indoor units are in a cupboard under the stairs, very neat. We now have a hot water tank again, in the cupboard where the original one was (removed about 10 years ago). Installation took 5 days. The team of engineers and tradesmen worked relentlessly hard to get work completed in that time.

Living with a heat pump

The heatpump keeps the house at about 19°C which is very comfortable. We have plenty hot water and the pressure is great. We use the app - as yet we haven't changed any settings as we're very happy with how it was set up when installation was completed. The system is audible, but not loud, when working eg to top up hot water after someone has showered.
