Aira air source heat pump in a pre 1920 property

Phil

I am retired and live with my wife in a village in Cornwall. Our Oil boiler was nearly 8 years old and had started experiencing odd faults, so we made the decision to replace it. After a lot of research we took the decision to move to an ASHP, as we felt it should work out to cost the same as our oil boiler, if not better, but that is because we also have the benefit of solar panels and batteries. Even without those, I would think the running costs would be at least the same, or ther abouts

Installing the system

Our installation was in a property that is over 200 years old. Our energy rating is D, on the cusp of being C. We had no special works carried out prior to installation.
The installation took 4 days in total, and took in a slight delay to work around a problem that the survey had missed.
The installation team were excellent, I couldn't have had a better experience, no troubles at all.

Living with a heat pump

Heat pump has only been in for a week, and has replaced an external oil boiler. The installation has been coupled with switching to a specific energy tariff designed to make the best use of low electricity rates at 3 times during the day. From the initial experience I am expecting it to work at least as well as the boiler, if not better. The domestic hot water is much better than when using the oil combi boiler
