About me
I'm a 41 year old, married with two primary school-aged children. I work on decarbonising the economy, and figured it was time to walk the walk in terms of having low-carbon technologies in my house, and I'm keen to talk to others about my experiences and share the good and the bad bits.

Visiting my heat pump
I'm very happy for people to reach out to me with questions, or to request a visit! Please do get in touch via email.

Air source heat pump

Installed by Heat Geek / Kraken Plumbing & Heating Ltd

Cost of energy bills per year: c£600 (net bill after export payments)

Installing the system

We had a new hot water tank installed in the garage (and freed up storage space in the former airing cupboard in the house). All 14 radiators in the house were replaced (almost all were the originals from when the house was built in the 1970s). The install in total took two weeks, during which we had hot water (thanks to the immersion) but no heating - during a cold part of February 2024!

Living with a heat pump

The heat pump is great - the house is always warm, and hot water is always available when we need it. I enjoyed tinkering with the system during the early months to get it just how I wanted, and had great advice from my installer. There is some minor vibration noise when the heat pump is working hard, but not enough to disturb us.
