Samsung air source heat pump in a pre 1920 property

David

About me
The combo boiler was 7 years old and still working well. But I wanted to get rid of my combo boiler to save 2 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

Visiting my heat pump
There is no controlled parking at the weekend, so it is free to park on the street. It is a 10min walk from Archway tube station.

Air source heat pump

EPC rating: C

Cost of energy bills per year: Before heat pump Gas 19,000kWh/yr; Electricity 3,500kWh/yr

Installing the system

The heat pump is located halfway down the garden.
The 250litre water tank, and heat pump controls, are in the utility room that formerly housed the combo boiler and tumble dryer.

We also upgraded radiators in two bedrooms and the bathroom, and added a new radiator in the living room and main bedroom. The need for these changes was identified in the heat assessment at the start of the process, which cost £500.

Installation took 5 days.

Living with a heat pump

Heat pump was only commissioned at end of June so it has only been used for hot water.
