Retired, married, children (all left home) , grandchildren. Old oil boiler where parts are difficult to obtain if it went wrong plus we don’t have to track the oil prices anymore. House is now future proofed with upgraded heating system.

Installing the system

Installation took 4 days including building work to brick up old oil boiler flue. Installation was during May 2025 and the weather was very warm which was helpful as heating engineers are in and out all of the time. Preparation is essential inside the house to make access to airing cupboard and radiators.

Living with a heat pump

We are still very new to the ASHP experience. We changed our oil fired boiler as it was 26 years old but still in full working order. You have to change your complete mindset with ASHP to oil in how to get the maximum efficiency out of it. We have not yet experienced a winter. So far we are happy to be free of not having to track the oil price and are monitoring the kWh / £ every day. We have changed our electricity tariff to E.on - Next Pumped Fixed 12m V5 which gives us 3 price ranges Peak, Off Peak and Super Off Peak. Our current split is 80% OP / SOP, 20% Peak. Halo (app control system) seems to be pretty good.
