About me
We’re quite an environmentally conscious family, but also value convenience. Moving from gas to something more environmentally friendly was a big consideration but also having a big proportion of the cost covered by a government grant played a role. I’m always happy to give honest recommendations and share my experience.

Installing the system

We had our heat pump installed by Octopus Energy, they arranged a suitable time to survey the house, discussed our options and guided us through the booking process. We had a couple of actions to complete, such as moving an outside PowerPoint and arranging an EPC, but otherwise everything was handled by the team. We booked a date for delivery of equipment the week ahead of the installation and had time to clear some space in the garage for that. The Installation itself took most of a week (4.5 days) with 3 people in the house most days, but they were very considerate about working around us and keeping as tidy as possible.

Living with a heat pump

Everything has worked as expected. We love being able to control everything through the app, but it’s good to have the reassurance of the manual controls in the cupboard and 3 boost buttons around the house. We also have an immersion heater so can manually top up the water if we need to outside of our usually schedule or had guests staying, but haven’t need it so far as we can also boost the hot water via the heat pump in the app or in the cupboard controls.
