Installing the system
The system was installed by Octopus Energy in January 2025 during a particularly cold snap. The install took 4 days and we had no heating throughout that time. The hot water was back on via the immersion by the end of the first day.
Only 3 radiator changes were required, one of which only because I wanted a higher design temperature for the master bedroom which is used to WFH. The heat pump is installed directly beneath the cupboard containing the hot water tank so only a minimal pipe run was required.
No other changes were required as we already had a system boiler with hot water tank.

Living with a heat pump
We don't have a solar or battery but do have an EV and make use of an overnight charging tariff. Before getting an EV and moving to the tariff in March 2025 we remained on the standard tariff and bills in January and February were largely the same as previous years (after accounting for changes in the unit prices) .
We previously used the boiler to keep the house to a constant 21 and in this respect the heat pump is no different. However the heat pump doesn't cycle as often meaning the house doesn't cool down a little bit before reheating, it is simply kept at the target temperature and is very comfortable to live with.
