About me
I'm a secondary school teacher of 25 years, with a view towards retirement in the next 10 years so I've had both solar panels and an air source heat pump installed with government grants finance in the hope that my pension years are not consumed with utilities costs worries! It's obviously also the way to go for a greener planet and my small contribution towards a world where my children aren't in constant fear of flood, water shortages, wild fires and other horrific weather events which impact them and the world at large.

Installing the system

The installation team were fantastic but it was a busy week, Monday to Friday lunch time. There were 3 guys working for most of the week, and 4 on one day. Be prepared for organised chaos with noise both inside and out! The water tank wouldn't fit in the attic space originally planned in my house but a fantastic job was done of fitting everything into a cupboard so it's still neatly out of the way. Some radiators needed to be changed too so that's an added consideration - not a problem as water switch off was kept to a minimum time.

Living with a heat pump

So far, it's hard to notice any real changes as it's been installed in summer months and heating is obviously not required. However, hot water continues to be readily available and it'll be clearer how well the whole system works as the weather cools again.
