Air source heat pump

EPC rating: D

Installing the system

Our property is a ground floor flat in a (early 1900s) terraced building, next to Hampstead Heath in South End Green, Camden. It is a single bedroom property of approximately 47 square meters.

The installation was straightforward, with the air-source heat pump (ASHP) positioned in a corner of our private garden. The flow/return piping and cabling runs under our bedroom suspended floor to a closet, which hosts a heat battery for domestic hot water (DHW). The heat battery is a Sunamp 300L equivalent unit.

The ASHP is the newest Samsung model (7th generation) with a rating of 5 kW.

Living with a heat pump

It's freed up a kitchen cabinet where the previous combi-gas boiler was fitted, allowing more space for storage. The ASHP is quieter than the boiler and sits nicely within the garden, matching the adjacent metal shed.

With the heat battery for DHW, we've never run out of hot water during the day. And we've set the ASHP to recharge the heat batter during the cheapest hours of our electricity tariff (Octopus Energy Cosy).
