About me
I'm a semi-retired cybersecurity architect and wanted to upgrade my heating to support the move to net-zero, keep my home warm all the time and have heating that costs less than a gas boiler. In addition to upgrading the heating system, we are also hoping to achieve near-zero bills and pay off the investment within 10 years by incorporating solar and battery storage.

Installing the system
The install was part of some building work and designed not to require the upgrade of any radiators. We did upgrade the windows to triple glazing before we started to reduce our heat loss and therefore the size of the heat pump.
The heat pump is mounted on the wall of the new extension, as any vibrations will be dampened before they reach the main house. We also added a water softener and accumulator to improve the water quality and pressure in the house.
For a bit of fun, the whole setup is integrated into Home Assistant with temperature sensors in every room to be able to balance the heating.
