Daikin air source heat pump in a post 2003 property

About me
We are a family of 5, me, my wife, and our 3 children. We have been on the fence with the ASHP for a while. Our gas boiler was due to be replaced so we decided to take advantage of the government grant (£7500) to have a ASHP installed. We have also been on the fence regarding solar panels, and since having the ASHP installed, we have decided to have a solar system install which is booked to be installed mid September. It is a 18 PV panel system, with a 8kWp hybrid inverter and 10.36kW battery. The main reason we are going green using renewable energy is to hopefully reduce our energy bills and improve our energy efficiency, but we are also proud that we will be reducing our carbon footprint.

Installing the system

The install took 4 days. It was fairly straightforward because we already had an unvented Megaflo water cylinder, so that was just swapped out for the heat pump one in the same location. The Daikin altherma 8kw ASHP was installed in the back garden and the pipework went straight up into the loft area where the buffer tank was installed, the pipework then dropped down into the water cylinder storage cupboard. We also needed 3 radiators replaced. There was very minimum disruption, just 2 days without hot water. The house was left very tidy upon completion. We did not require any planning permission!
They also removed our gas boiler and gas meter at our request.

Living with a heat pump

The ASHP was only installed in June this year (3 months ago), and due to the good summer weather, we are yet to test out the central heating system properly. However, we have 3 children, and we have not had any issues with hot water. I haven't noticed that much of a change in our electricity usage (maybe slightly increased), but we no longer have a gas bill so our bills to Octopus are less.
We are having a 18 panel solar system fitted tomorrow with a 8kWp hybrid inverter and 10.3Kw battery. It will be very interesting to compare our winter bills this year to last year.
