MasterTherm ground source heat pump in a 1965 - 1982 property

About me
We are a middle-aged couple who try to live as sustainably as possible. When we moved in, the house was heated by an oil-fired boiler and we wanted to replace it with an environmental option. We use Ecotricity to supply our electricity so this seemed the most eco option available. We went for a ground source heat pump as it is so efficient and quiet. We want to open our house to visitors to dispel the myths about heat pumps and share our positive experiences with anyone thinking about fitting one.

Ground source heat pump

Installed by Orangehouse Renewables

Installing the system

We have a ground source heat pump with 3 bore holes. The drilling of the bore holes took 2 weeks and was rather complicated but does provide us with a very reliable and consistent experience. It did involve a lot of disruption in the garden but we hadn't long moved in so planned to redo the garden afterwards anyway.
We upgraded and/or added to our radiators which again involved a lot of work but we were planning to decorate afterwards anyway.
The heat pump is in the garage.

Living with a heat pump

We love it, far exceeded expectations!
Our house is always warm in the winter and our bills are very reasonable.
You do have to adjust the way you heat the house but once you are aware that you need to keep the heating on 24/7 and that your radiators don't feel hot, it all makes sense.
The heat pump is very quiet and requires virtually no intervention.
