Ideal air source heat pump in a 1965 - 1982 property

Melissa

About me
When I installed a heat pump, I was nervous—it was a completely new and unfamiliar system—and asked myself loads of questions (am I making the right decision? what about hot water? etc). I'm opening my home to visitors because I know how important it is to talk to others to allay nerves, inspire confidence and support behavioural change.

Air source heat pump

EPC rating: C

Installing the system

We had an 5.4kW Ideal Heat Pump with 200L hot water cylinder installed by EDF Heat Pumps (trading name: CB Heating).
We went with EDF heat Pumps as they could be flexible with regards to the size of a hot water tank that would fit in our airing cupboard.
Minimal changes were made to the property, as the EPC was already decent. EDF Heat Pumps supplied and installed 8 radiators (for free) to upgrade our old ones (bonus). The heat pump is located in driveway. New hot water tank went where the old was. A buffer tank and expansion vessel were installed in the loft above.
Installation took 5 days.

Living with a heat pump

Heat pump was installed in August 2025. We have hot water - proper hot and plenty to have showers. Have yet to use the heating.
