Midea air source heat pump in a 1983 - 2002 property

Bob

My wife and I have been steadily improving the insulation of our house for around 25 years. We eventually got to the point where having a heat pump was clearly the next step. Our house is now entirely electric; we have no gas connection.

Installing the system

The heat pump was installed in September 2022 so it is now entering its third winter. In addition to adding the heat pump (and discarding the gas boiler) we replaced four ground floor radiators and were recommended to replace the DHW tank with a larger on. The installation was very straightorward and took around four and a half days.

Living with a heat pump

The air source heat pump heats the house as required year round and also provides domestic hot water. We also have some solar hot water panels (but no PV panels). The house is extensively insulated with cavity wall insulation, A-grade double glazing essentially throughout and around 420mm mineral wool loft insulation. The two external doors are also highly insulated and partly draught proof.
