Installing the system

Solar panels and batteries were installed first. Insulation was already in place. The hot water cylinder is where the gas boiler used to be. An induction hob was also installed so gas could be stopped. The fireplace and flue have been removed. Most radiators were kept the same. The car has been changed to an EV. The charger uses mainly solar power.  The heat pump, tank and radiator changes took about a week. All the removed major items were re-used by other home-owners not just recycled. There was limited disruption. Please do get in touch to arrange a visit or with questions.

Living with a heat pump

It is very similar to having a modern boiler. Exact comparisons would depend on your existing heating system. I can explain in more detail to those interested. It is quiet and there are now no fumes. My energy bill is negative overall. As I had a combi boiler before I had to get a tank. This is a benefit in that one can just run a trickle of hot water without it running cold unlike with a combi boiler, which has quite a high minimum flow rate. Again, comparisons will vary depending what you have now and exactly what you get, what radiators or underfloor heating you have and what type, make and model you might get. Annual servicing is expensive. This should improve with more competition, I hope.
