Installing the system
We did a lot of work over a number of years to make the property more heat efficient before considering a heat pump. Work included double glazing (needed to comply with requirements of a conservation zone), internal wall insulation (and floor insulation in one room) and sealing/filling of chimney voids.
Living with a heat pump
We had a LG R32 9kW Air Source Heat Pump installed in autumn 2023. We're using it for central heating only (not hot water). We were using around 5,000-6,000kWh/a for gas heating and that has reduced to around 1,000 kWh/a electricty to run the heat pump. Our experience is that heat pumps are simple to operate once they are installed. however, there are lots of settings for the installer to make which can affect operation so it's improtant to use someone who knows what they are doing.
