Semi-detached property in St Newlyn East

Air source heat pump in a Pre 1920 property, hosted by Richard.

Richard

Having installed a heat pump at my own property (https://app.visitaheatpump.com/hosts/158?location=truro) I persuaded a relative to do the same as the savings copmared to LPG are considerable.

Installing the system

LPG central heating was installed by the previous owner in 2018. The radiators, although modern, were sized based on typical gas hot water temperatures. Despite not replacing these, the flow temperature is usually below 40 degrees C and the COP is above 4.

Internal insulation of 70mm was applied to most of the external solid stone walls and loft insulation was increased to 370mm. The system has no difficulty in maintaining the set temperature of 19.5 degrees C.

The installation took 3 days and the installers went to great lengths to ensure that all cabling and pipework is hidden under floor boards and in the roof space.

Living with a heat pump

The property dates from 1850 and is a converted chapel with solid stone walls.

The LPG gas boiler was replaced in February 2024 with a 5 kW Vaillant aroTHERM Plus system.

Electricity costs are about half the LPG costs as a result of this installation.
