Air source heat pump
Living with a heat pump
14kw double fan heat pump, supplying 13 rads and hot water.
3.5kw solar panel installation.
5.6kwh battery installation has been increased to 17kw.
Smart thermostat radiator valves.
100amp main cable to the house.
Smart meter installed.
Immersion heater hot water boost if solar is tipping over into the grid.
We buy electricity in three tariffs. 2 x 3 hours and 1 x 2 hours low cost 1 x 3 hours very high cost the rest at normal rate. The battery is always recharged during the low-cost periods and boosted with solar. The battery and solar are used during the 3-hour very high-cost tariff period. Normal tariff shares battery, and solar power.
We always use the heat pump on low-cost periods. Switch it off at a high-cost tariff. Let it run when on normal tariff along with battery and solar controlled by a timer and smart rad valves.
The 17kw will run the heatpump on off peak electricity, reducing the running cost by a £100 per month.
Would I fit a heat pump without a battery system? No, the running cost would be too much and more expencive that agas boiler. Oil is differant, there the heat pump is cost effective
