Daikin air source heat pump in a 1920 - 1944 property

Mike

I knew that a heat pump would be better than my failing gas boiler and have not regretted my decision to take the plunge. I did my research first. The comfort is unbelievable!

Installing the system

Due to shortage of some components required for our system, the installation took place over 3 weeks! Our installation is possibly not a typical one as we heat our domestic hot water using a Sunamp Thermino ePV210 unit as we do not have a suitable space for a ‘conventional’ 210 litre hot water tank.
Our house is well insulated and the calculated heat loss is 6.5 kWh. Our 8 kW Daikin coped very well when we experienced -7 or -8 degrees C in November and December 2023; naturally, the COP went down (approx 2.5 if I remember correctly) however most of the time, we see a COP of 4 plus. Our Homely smart controller works exceedingly well and our whole house is kept at 22.5 degrees C 24/7. We like the fact that the whole system inside is silent and that there are no hot or cold spots anywhere - just even temperature throughout. No red hot or stone cold radiators - it just works and works very well!

Living with a heat pump

Daikin 8 kW Monobloc used for heating but not domestic hot water; this is handled separately by a Sunamp Thermino ePV210 heat battery. Also 8.1 kWp. of Solar PV on roofs and garden mounted, 27kW of Tesla Powerwall battery and a MyEnergi Eddi Power Diverter.
The ambient sound level ‘masks’ the sound from the heat pump. There is much to see as well as the heat pump if you are interested in renewable energy systems. As I am retired, I can accommodate appointments most days and times to suit you. Please contact me if you wish to visit; I am not tied to a timetable and can accommodate most reasonable times and days that fit in with you. Should you wish to know a little more about my endeavours in the renewable energy journey, please read my article available at this link.
