Daikin air source heat pump in a 1920 - 1944 property
Mike
I knew that a heat pump would be better than my failing gas boiler and have not regretted my decision to take the plunge. I did my research first. The comfort is unbelievable!

Air source heat pump
Installed by Cinergi
EPC rating: C (72) but since upgraded to equal a B ((83)
Cost of energy bills per year: £953 for 2024 (Just electricity as we have no gas)
Installing the system
Our house is well insulated and the calculated heat loss is 6.5 kWh. Our 8 kW Daikin coped very well when we experienced -7 or -8 degrees C in November and December 2023; naturally, the COP went down (approx 2.5 if I remember correctly) however most of the time, we see a COP of 4 plus. Our Homely smart controller works exceedingly well and our whole house is kept at 22.5 degrees C 24/7. We like the fact that the whole system inside is silent and that there are no hot or cold spots anywhere - just even temperature throughout. No red hot or stone cold radiators - it just works and works very well!
Living with a heat pump
N.B. The heat pump does not need to run during the summer as the hot water needs are dealt with by the Sunamp system. Therefore the pump will not be running for visits out of wintertime - but everything else is available for viewing. As the noise level from the heat pump is below that of the ambient noise from road traffic, aircraft and the railway etc., there is little to be heard from the pump anyway!
The ambient sound level ‘masks’ the sound from the heat pump. There is much to see as well as the heat pump if you are interested in renewable energy systems. As I am retired, I can accommodate appointments most days and times to suit you. Please contact me if you wish to visit; I am not tied to a timetable and can accommodate most reasonable times and days that fit in with you. Should you wish to know a little more about my endeavours in the renewable energy journey, please read my article available at this link.
