Vaillant air source heat pump in a 1965 - 1982 property

Tom

I'm very keen on removing all fossil fuels from our daily lives. I started with an EV, then another EV, then a home battery, then a heat pump. I'm also planning on installing solar panels. I believe it is our responsibility to do this even if it doesn't make complete financial sense.

Installing the system

This was a retrofit into a house without a lot of spare space for a new cylinder, expansion vessels, etc. Some of the equipment is in installed in the loft space, some in an old airing cupboard and more in the new cylinder location. The heat pump itself is installed on wall brackets above a flat roof.

Living with a heat pump

So far, so good. It is virtually silent. The hot water cylinder takes ~1 hour to recharge and so far is about 350% efficient. The heat is "just there", you barely notice it. COP for the heating is ~520%, though the outside temperature has only gone down to 6degC so far.
