Vaillant air source heat pump in a 1965 - 1982 property

Michael

About me
We wanted to install a heat pump to produce low carbon heat at a similar cost to our previous gas boiler, alongside installing solar and a battery to reduce our electricity bill.

Air source heat pump

Installed by Montali Energy Services

EPC rating: E

Cost of energy bills per year: 2800

Installing the system

During the installation replaced 13 of our radiators at the installer's request, to minimise potential future issues. The gas boiler was removed, and the hot water cylinder was placed where an electric shower had been.
Installation preparation took us about three days (removing hardwood flooring, moving furniture away from pipe runs and covering furniture with dust covers).
Heating installation itself took two days.
Scaffolding was erected in one day and then the solar (9 x 420W Mono PERC JA Solar panels and 3.6kW Solis inverter) and the battery (5kWh Puredrive) installation took one day.
Additionally, mechanical sub floor vents were installed.
Majority funded with a grant from Warmer Homes Scotland.

Living with a heat pump

The heat pump has worked as expected, producing heat and hot water efficiently, at a similar cost to the previous gas boiler. Solar and battery are helping to reduce our bills.
