About me
I have always believed in being as self reliant as possible. I am opening my home to show that the ordinary ex council house in my area can be upgraded with the right planning.

Air source heat pump

EPC rating: B (after Solar, before ASHP)

Installing the system

I have an ex-council house which needed significant upgrading. I have added Solar PV, Batteries, and replaced the back boiler GCH with an ASHP. This work has all been done in 2024. I have also had to having electrical wiring upgrades, and the plumbing has been redone virtually completly. The installation of the heat pump took 1 week + a week for a damaged radiator (from the supplier). The work in the house was so extensive that I lived in my caravan for the week. The surveys do not capture all the detail needed! My experience of the solar panel installation was a mixed experience, Octopus installed the heat pump, my experience of them was that they were excellent.

Living with a heat pump

I am still getting used to the heat pump, it is clear though that the thermostats on my old GCH system were faulty!! After the solar install and before the ASHP i was self sufficient for electric but consuming a lot of gas.
