I am a process engineer by training and wanted to get a heat pump to reduce my carbon footprint. I am part of the local climate action group and want to encourage more people to switch to low carbon heating now it is as cheap or cheaper than gas to run.

Installing the system

We have a house with solid walls and radiators and a modern kitchen extension with underfloor heating. We’ve had solar PV since 2010 and added more PV and a 10kW battery in 2023. Insulation has always been added when the opportunity arose, such as under the new roof.

Living with a heat pump

The heat pump is fine. No trouble. We have tried running the heating load intermittently like a gas boiler and now run it more constantly over the day. Combined with the battery our monthly costs have come down.
