About me
We wanted to reduce the carbon footprint of our home heating. Happy to share our experience because I’m appalled by all the misinformation about heat pumps that is out there.

Air source heat pump

Installed by Good Energy

EPC rating: C

Installing the system

Install too a week - mid winter, deep frost - but available slots for installation were good at that time of year and we managed. Hot water was restored at the end of day 2. We didn’t change any radiators (initially) and apart from cold there wasn’t much disturbance- but we are lucky as it was all in a utility room /  cupboard

Living with a heat pump

It took a while to adjust to the ‘low and slow’ philosophy and a year before I was confident to tweak the weather compensation and rely on that (as opposed to thermostats) to control the temperature- but the house is overall more comfortable that it was before. Changing energy prices (and weather) make it hard to compare, but our costs seem much the same as before- we are on a time of use tariffs and avoid having the heat pump on during evening peaks - the heat stored in the house bridges us fine….brings down average unit cost of electricity by about 1/3
