Visiting my heat pump
My Daikin system was installed mid October 2024, and I added 18.8kWh of home batteries to dramatically reduce running costs to around less than £1 per day. Feel free to ask questions.

About this property

Woodbridge, IP12

3 bedrooms

Air source heat pump

EPC rating: C

Cost of energy bills per year: £400 (est) for the whole house electricity (was £1400 electricity plus oil)

Installing the system

We live in a 3 bedroom semi detached 100m² bungalow, which had a ~30 year old oil boiler which needed to be replaced. Enquired about ASHP mid August, and it was installed in mid October. I had all seven radiators replaced, and I don't have underfloor heating. It was a very simple install which took two days for the bulk of it, with a third day finishing up, and commissioning. In mid January 2025 I had 18.8kWh of home batteries installed, which have reduced the running costs significantly down to less than £1 per day during January and February, buy charging them on a cheap tariff.

Living with a heat pump

It's pretty good so far. The cold weather is just starting, but I'm confident that it'll cost about the same as, or less than oil to run over the year. As with our previous oil boiler, we do supplement our daily evening heating with a wood burner. To run it efficiently there is a slightly steep learning curve to adjust parameters, but it's okay. Update: the home battery upgrade has significantly helped with running costs.
