Octopus air source heat pump in a post 2003 property

Holly

About me
I bullied my husband into a heat pump purely for environmental reasons, after we got an EV the next logical step seemed to be to get rid of gas. We're happy to have visitors if it means they'll be convinced to lose the gas too :)

Installing the system

The heat pump materials arrived a week before the installation, they were stored in the garage. Before installation I was contacted by the engineer to check all was okay for the install, the whole process took 5 days, maybe a bit longer than expected as some additional inventory had to be ordered. The landing carpet had to be taken up which we were already expecting, but the engineers left the house super tidy when they left each day.

Living with a heat pump

It's taken a few weeks to get used to a new way of heating the house, unlike gas there's some tweaks to make to the schedule to keep it consistent. The hot water ran out a couple of times after a single bath but I realised it was because I'd not set the schedule correctly, since then we've not had any issues. All in all we don't really notice a difference, it's working really well. It's too early to comment on the financial aspects as we've not received our first bill yet, but it feels great to be gas free.
