We are happy with our HP, but experienced quite a lot of negative feedback prior to installation. As a society we need to make progress with replacing gas and other fossil fuels and we our willing to do our bit to encourage others.

Air source heat pump

Cost of energy bills per year: Prior to fuel inflation about £2000 pa. Currently uncertain given solar, battery, HP and occupancy changes.

Installing the system

Replaced an end of life gas boiler with a Heat Pump. Used Octopus as supplier. Our CH system was 10mm microbore, but this was OK. 13 of 17 radiators upgraded but minimum disruption and only 2 have required some paintwork patching after. New, larger, hot water tank. A year before the HP was installed we had solar panels (7.2kW) and battery (9kW) fitted - all part of our green contribution.

Living with a heat pump

Works well, but possibly appears to work well as the replaced gas boiler was not working well. No problems with heating or hot water so far but the HP has only been installed for 6 months and there is more first winter to come. System is surprisingly quiet. Much quieter than the old gas boiler when standing next to system. Do not hear the HP at all inside the house. So far, mid-December, house more than warm enough.
