Daikin air source heat pump in a post 2003 property

Joe

About me
Wanted to be green. Wanted to save money. Boiler was coming at the end of its life. I wanted to try and blend air source heat pump with solar and battery system. We are a young family and still make this work for us and save us money and the planet. I am keen to show you how solar, battery and heat pump are a winning combination in a busy family of 4.

Visiting my heat pump
Watch Heat pump work alongside battery and solar system at our green house. Hear how I offset the costs by running it at the cheaper tariffs whilst keeping the house toasty in winter.

Air source heat pump

EPC rating: B

Installing the system

Installation was about 4.5 days with an army of 3-5 workers there each day. Octopus had sheets everywhere and were conscious of noise, dirt and disturbance.

Hot water tank was replaced too In the installation, same space re used. We put our ASHP down the side of the house, out of the way.

A seamless install. Couldn’t fault Octopus and their installation team.

Living with a heat pump

We have our heat pump set to 18 degrees in the expensive periods of the day and the cheaper periods we have it set at 20. It’s a lovely steady warm temperature which is pleasant.

Recently (in November) our heat pump cost me £2 a day. Offset that with £1.30 export even in winter, that’s 70p to run hot water and heating. In some severe winter weather at its peak for a family of 4 for all electric costs (no longer have gas) it cost me £4 for a day in -4 degrees.
