We needed to replace the aging boiler and immersion heater, it seemed mad to be putting in a gas boiler in 2024 and, with the government grant, it worked out more cost effective to have the modern technology from day 1.

Installing the system

Our house is a 1905 built semi detached on a corner plot. The ASHP install was part of a large renovation project - we've taken the opportunity to add internal wall insulation, add insulation under our floors and run underfloor heating in a significant portion of the downstairs. Upstairs we installed larger radiators but pipework remained untouched.
Install of the ASHP and associated cylinder and pipework took 4 days - we saved the installer time by running supply cables as part of our renovation work and there was no old system to rip out.

Living with a heat pump

Our install was completed just before the weather turned cold, we've still got some ongoing works in the house creating draughts but it's working really well considering.
