Installing the system

We decided the large HW and buffer cylinders controls etc. would fill a large floor to ceiling built in cupboard in our hall area with pipes under suspended floor to 2 heat pumps under balcony at end of our kitchen extension so not be close to neighbouring houses.  We needed a powerful system because of heat loss from  difficult to insulate 1908 house. Panning permission was needed and they were unnecessarily awkward, probably from inexperience. Our installers were great. Making holes for pipework, removing a poor balcony and rebuilding it later and modifying our internal cupboard were things we arranged ourselves. We also added more loft insulation and had to arrange a home energy report to qualify for grant.  The HP installation took 2 weeks. We added big radiators to our living room and one in former airing cupboard after hwc removed. Loft water tank gone too.

Living with a heat pump

It has worked well. No savings on bills but that's  due to distorted electricity market which will hopefully change.  We keep our sitting room cosy at 18 to 19 deg c.  The rest of the house is cooler and we wrap up well at home. We use 4 dehumidifiers in our home - one for drying clothes and one in sitting room and main bedroom.
