Daikin air source heat pump in a post 2003 property

Priyesh

Over 12 months (Dec23-Nov24), we moved to a GREEN lifestyle. First we installed a Solar Battery system followed by EV+Charger. Lastly, we got our 15 year old boiler (since property was built) replaced by a Heat Pump. I predict my annual Energy cost would drop from £4,000 to £750 and EPC from C to A. Breakdown on this link. (https://community.openenergymonitor.org/t/go-green-heat-pump-solar-batteries-and-ev/27399/6) Octopus referral code: We share £100 from them if you join them.. https://share.octopus.energy/sand-mouse-552 Octopus Heat Pump referral code 33184252: We share £200 if you get Octopus to install Heat Pump.

Installing the system

We had 5 quotes from household names and Octopus were the cheapest who provided a more detailed explanation why a smaller sized (8kw) heat pump is more suited compared to other quotes (11-18kw). Their suggestion and heat loss calculation matched to Heat Geek's online estimates which gave me confidence. Turnover from online quote to install was roughly 6 weeks. They installed the system end of Nov 2024 without any issues, were very efficient and professional.

I have taken their 5 year plan which will validate 5 year warranty on everything they have installed plus annual full system service. I also extended the warranty by extra 2 years with Daikin giving me a total of 7 year warranty on both, the heat pump and cylinder.

Living with a heat pump

We now have 24/7 cosy temperature of 20/21c (no more cold/hot spots) across the entire house plus no cracking noise coming from the pipes (this was an issue with boiler). Heat pump runs very efficiently and is super quiet.

Currently the heat pump is run on weather compensation with indoor temperature target of 20c. Hot water is set daily at 48c (morning) and 42c (afternoon) with weekly legionella cycle at 55c. Since install (Nov 24), it has produced sCOP of 3.5.
