I wanted to reduce our environmental impact and also protect ourselves from increasing energy costs. I am happy to speak with people about their plans to install an ASHP because I know that this is a big decision and it is important to be able to speak with others who have already made the decision.

Installing the system

The installation took 5 days. The existing gas boiler was disconnected on day one however the installers provided fan heaters for warmth until the heat pump was running. We had an existing emersion heater for hot water and that was disconnected on the evening of day 4. The internal ASHP equipment takes up a lot of space so we needed to rethink where some of the white goods in the utility room could be placed.
While the installation team were great, courteous and tidying at the end of each day, there is inevitably disruption which comes with any renovations.

Living with a heat pump

We had two main concerns; would the shower pressure be good enough and would we be warm? Both are fine and so far we are happy with the decision to go ahead.
