Grant air source heat pump in a pre 1920 property

PAUL

Passionate about cutting our carbon footprint. Getting rid of the 20 year old gas boiler and running the house on clean green electricity made so much sense. We love our electric cars and whilst our roof is not very suitable for solar panels we have bought shares in Ripple's community wind and solar farms giving us money off our bills.

Installing the system

Grant 17kW ASHP and 220 litre slimline tank replaced a 24kW condensing combi gas boiler.
Some of our radiators had already been swapped for over-sized ones over the years, so there was no additional radiator replacement or addition done at the time. Some extra radiators were recommended in the heat survey but these were optional and we agreed these were probably unnecessary.
We were without hot water for less than 36 hours and without heating for less than two weeks. The work took two weeks during which time we were happy to heat the house with portable electric fires that we had or the fitting company lent us.

Living with a heat pump

It has worked perfectly from the start with no issues.  We have schedules for hot water and heating using our existing Nest smart thermostat.
We have found the 220 litre hot water tank adequate for 4 people living in the property and it can be reheated from cold in about 45mins.
