Vaillant air source heat pump in a 1945 - 1964 property

Sarah

I help people make the transition from fossil fueled vehicles to electric vehicles professionally, however I am able to make the transition myself due to finances. Moving our home from gas to electricity was financially possible due to the BUS grant and 0% finance available. I would encourage everyone who needs to change their heating system to at least consider if a heat pump could work for you. Our home isn't particularly well insulated but we can do more to improve this over the coming years which will help the efficiency of the heat pump.

Installing the system

All radiators were replaced as part of our install, this was to achieve desire temperatures downstairs, upstairs we choose to upgrade two bedrooms that were sized correctly with modern radiators.
The install was 9 working days start to finish, the first few days we had a team of engineers from Eon as they were also using our property to train more people.  The plumbers and electricians were great to have in the house and worked considerately.

Living with a heat pump

We initially ran with Octopus Agile but as Decembers evening prices spiked we decided to switch to Cosy tariff.  The first 3 months cost us £5.65 a day which includes all the electricity to run our 3 bed home, including fairly regular tumble dryer use.
