Daikin air source heat pump in a post 2003 property

Mark

The price offered with the Boiler upgrade scheme was a no-brainer. Whilst not every install will be as cheap as mine (£300) we now have no gas and a consistently warm home.

Installing the system

We had to have pipework running up the wall of one of the bedrooms requiring the laminate to be lifted a few planks back and 5 of 9 radiators changed.  Team of 5 onsite for 4 days with the senior installer a few hours on Friday morning to finish testing.  The experience is a little invasive as they are charging radiators around the house and running pipework as per design.  Your hot water and heating is also off for 1-2 days so plan for this.  Octopus provided us with portable heaters free of charge which was very helpful.  The team work with you and keep you informed though to help plan better.

Living with a heat pump

The house is consistently warm throughout.  No more peaks and troughs of hot and cold.  It is a strange sense as the radiators are barely on, but the house never feels cold.  We also had our gas meter removed and capped free of charge and so far the heat pump has been around the same or slightly cheaper running cost as before.  However, we never had our gas boiler working constantly so it would be fair to suggest had we run our heating like for like it would have cost considerably more in gas usage.
