We moved to Cornwall in 2021, our forever home and when we moved we straight away installed solar panels and battery storage. This has saved thousands in electricity bills. In 2022 I got an EV and as soon as Octopus opened up into heatpumps in my area it then became the ideal time to ditch gas altogether.

Air source heat pump

Installed by Installed by Octopus Energy.

Installing the system

Octopus install.

Removed existing system boiler and water tank.

UFH downstairs in which the blending valve and pump were removed.

Have gone from 4 zones of heating to 3. Hallway has the daikin thermostat and actuator on UFH manifold has been removed. This means hallway UFH and upstairs radiator are on one zone. Kitchen and living room can still be controlled independently through the actuators so long as the hallway is calling for heat.

Living with a heat pump

It's exceeded expectations. House is a lot warmer and a drastically reduction in humidity. I run the system overnight (upstairs rads are TRV controlled and on fairly low) as I am octopus Intelligent go. This heats up the underfloor slab and it then retains the heat all day and only if it's really cold will it kick back in later in the evening. This means it's all running at the 7p per kwh rate. I lose COP on this as it's really cold over night but it's still a substantial saving over the peak rate.
