NIBE air source heat pump in a pre 1920 property

Mike

We were having an extension built and combined the heat pump install to update the poor heating. We wanted to move to future technology. I am an engineer and understand systems. I have for years been fed up with the bad press concerning heat pumps and want people to see one working in an old Welsh stone house in a rural location. One thing I will say is that the system needs to be correctly designed, correctly installed and correctly set up.

Installing the system

Carried out in 2009. It's a stone building with a modern timber framed extension. The only change to the old part of the house was to install new rads and repipe using micro core. We did add additional insulation to the old roof.

Living with a heat pump

It is so comfortable, keeping the house at a constant 20 - 21 degrees. Always a lot of hot water. It has worked as well as expected and ignoring the current energy crisis works out the same or cheaper than the old smelly, inefficient oil system.
