About me
Retired professional, built new house on retirement on a plot which had no mains gas, plus wanted to do our bit for the environment. I want people to see exactly what is involved in heat pump installation and living with its operation.

Installing the system

Heating via a heat pump was a decision made at the time of designing our new build house. Therefore the house design included ample insulation, underfloor heating etc. installation was part of the building contract and was not very satisfactory, and had to be adjusted afterwards.

Living with a heat pump

It has heated the house and water satisfactory, very happy with that side of things. Complaints are not about level of heat but aftercare. Too few engineers trained for heat pumps. The units are fairly complicated with sensors, valves, switches, etc which means diagnosing problems is not straight forward. generally heat pump engineers (trained in replacing gas etc.) do not work on the plumbing side of things and visa versa which can mean two call outs, travel charge, etc. Not helped by many different brands now on the market.
