Daikin air source heat pump in a 1965 - 1982 property

Lucy

Our boiler was at the end of its life span and while wanting to be greener the cost of installation of solar panels and heat pump did not make sense. This is the first year that we could ensure that we would break even on the cost of outlay and the saving on bills over a 10 year period. (Based on the current energy rates, so expect this to improve as energy rates climb).

Installing the system

Due to existing air conditioning units we required planning permission so from enquiry to installation was around 6 months. Installation took a week and we had a few other issues like asbestos to contend with.

We also have a combination of underfloor heating and radiators, we also wanted the gas supply stopped to the property.

Living with a heat pump

It’s worked very well so far. Due to working from home we already used our heating in a way that was compatible to heat pump so have not really noticed any changes. Hot water production for us is better.
Electricity usage has gone up (obviously) but we are getting solar panels installed currently which we hope to balance out the cost v benefit which we are happy to discuss.

Accessing the venue

Parking is limited to around 4 vehicles, however there is a car park located at the roundabout next to the property (1 minute walk but not a tarmac car park so may not be suitable for accessibility, wheelchair access may also be an issue)
