Vaillant air source heat pump in a 1920 - 1944 property

Matthew

My wife and I are very interested in our responsibility to minimise our impact and as an engineer I’m interested from a technical perspective. We needed to walk the talk! Otherwise we’ve got 2 daughters, we all love cycling and gardening and I’m into running and football.

Installing the system

We’ve got a 1930s semi-detached which we’ve had external wall insulation applied to. This meant we could have a 7kw hp instead of 12kw+. We managed to locate the heat pump away from the house with buried pipe work to get to the house. The slim cylinder is where the boiler was, in the same cupboard as the solar inverter and battery.

Living with a heat pump

We LOVE it
It’s so much more comfortable in the house and so efficient.
In the house it’s nice to not have the clicking if the pipes warming up
