We decided to remove our gas supply and go all electric, using Octopus Energy Smart Tariffs supported by solar generation with the aim of covering all of our electric and heating costs with no bills.

Installed in April 2025 so early days, and not a particularly good time of year to try out a new heating system. So far the nights have been cold and the days mild but we have run the heat pump for space heating to 21 degrees from 23:30 to 5:30 all through the night and the house maintains an even temperature during the day. Using the Octopus Energy Intelligent Go tariff this has cost an average of around 50 pence per night including heating the hot water tank to 50 degrees. Very pleased with the results so far and enjoying learning how to control the heat pump to achieve a constant temperature throughout the house. We are having solar panels and battery storage installed during April so that will add another dimension.
