Daikin air source heat pump in a 1945 - 1964 property

About me
I’ve been interested in the technology for a while as a means to decarbonise and reduce costs. It also works well with the solar panels and home battery we have installed. I’m opening my house as I genuinely believe heat pumps are the way forward, and wish to help cancel out the ill informed negative press about heat pumps.

Air source heat pump

Installing the system

My reasons for installing a heat pump were both to reduce costs and to decarbonise. Initial performance suggests I have achieved both.

I have a 11kw Daikin air sourced heat pump. I moved from a combi oil boiler, so installation required the addition of a new hot water cylinder. House is based on a 1960s bungalow, but with a second story added in 2020. Full cavity wall insulation, and double glazing, but very limited floor insulation on ground floor.

Installation experience was very positive, taking a total of five days.

Living with a heat pump

So far it’s working as expected. I have plenty of hot water and heat. Most importantly, running costs are down. The system is quieter than the oil boiler that was located inside the house, and I no longer get the occasional whiff of heating oil. Oh and I have more room on my drive now the oil tank is gone.
