We are a retired couple who moved to Hereford to build our highly energy efficient house in 2015. We decided to retrofit a heat pump in 2021 to further reduce our emissions.

Installing the system

Ours is a Passive House and the standard calculations don't reflect how well it actually performs, so we went for a hybrid system with our existing gas boiler, then turned off the boiler and gas connection when it was clear that the heat pump alone easily met the demand.
Installation took a week or so, I think, and was straightforward. All the internal kit takes up a significant amount of space, so needs good planning.

Living with a heat pump

The system has worked wonderfully well.
The only slight downside is that the pump is situated on a roof immediately above our bed and, although v quiet, it can be noticeable during the night. We just avoid running it at night.

Best accessed through Southbank Close to avoid the sharp blind intersection with Southbank Road. Please park just inside the entrance of our drive.
