Installing the system
We were on gas heating when we moved in in 2023, but always had every intention of installing an ASHP. To do that we had to improve the insulation and reduce draughts in the house - we replaced all the old double glazing with new triple glazed, replaced front and back doors, improved the loft insulation and reduced draughts. We also replaced all our very old radiators. We drew on the HES funding in Scotland, taking a grant and loan which covered most of the cost. We have also installed solar PV, solar hot water and a battery. We also have an EV charger.
Living with a heat pump
Now we have eliminated most of the draughts in the house (there were a lot) it is working well. As we both work from home, it's really good to have constant warmth in the house. It never gets too hot or too cold. We still have a few bits of insulation to improve like insulating the ensuite bathroom in the eaves which will improve things further. Our bills have come down substantially.
