I'm Flo and I work in energy policy in the charity sector and have been looking forward to getting a heat pump when we moved last year. I know that with new technology it helps to see it in action so I wanted to offer people the chance to come and look at it and ask questions.

Installing the system

We had our heat pump installed in April 2025 with Octopus. We have an internal cylinder with volumiser and expansion vessel and an external heat pump in our front garden. It took about 2-3 days to install and then a bit extra to show us the ropes on managing the heating and water via the app. This was part of a kitchen renovation for us and as part of the installation we removed the boiler cupboard and moved the fridge to create space for the cylinder to sit. No preparation was needed outside or with the electrics - this was all part of the service including building a plinth for the heat pump to sit on.

Living with a heat pump

So far so good! the heat feels different and nicer than the gas central heating. All going well with the hot water too, we are still tinkering a bit to get our temperatures right.
