I'd like to get as off grid as possible, with solar and a battery on the horizon. But I love the fact I don't have dirty gas anymore. So I'm more than happy to share my experience.

Installing the system

We were quite lucky in that were in a new build, so we already had a room for a water tank. They did however upgrade most of the radiators to larger units.

The install took 4 days in the end. Day 1 and 2 were generally working on the tank, making sure we had water available by the end of the day. The Octopus team provided us with electric heaters too, but luckily it was quite mild outside. Day 3 and 4 were installing the pipework from the heat pump to the new tank, testing and signing off. They were excellent from start to finish.

Living with a heat pump

If anything it's made the house too hot initially, so I turned it down! Much nicer than a gas boiler in my opinion. You don't know it's running.

Overnight it fills the cylinder with hot water which lasts us all day. It stays hot too.
